During this time of unprecedented migration and displacement, the need for community places where people of diverse origins and ages can gather in a safe space for dialogue, sharing and connection becomes increasingly imperative. Youth from around the world must be empowered to use their inherent ways of knowing and understanding to address the challenges they face in their homelands as well as the new countries and cultures where they resettle. This website is about the author’s experience working with youth participants to create a Global Youth Peace Summit, a Global Village to which youth travelled from over 22 countries to tell their stories, name their world and find their voices through music, dance and play. The project revealed the power and importance of nurturing public home-spaces and dialogical methods of leadership in the effort to penetrate naturalized racist ideologies and support both youth and adults in finding their voice in the struggle against oppression.
